Business Rhetorics and Bias

Overview
**Keep Scrolling**
You will be challenged to examine how bias influences business communication, decision-making, and strategic outcomes.
Lesson Overview: Business Rhetorics and Bias
In this lesson, we will explore how rhetoric—the strategic use of language and communication—shapes the way businesses present themselves, their products, and their values. Business rhetoric is not just about advertising; it also shows up in mission statements, workplace communication, company culture, and even customer service interactions.
We will also examine how bias influences business rhetoric. Bias can appear in the language companies use, the audiences they target, and the stories they choose to highlight or ignore. Sometimes these choices are intentional, and sometimes they are unconscious. Either way, bias affects how messages are created, how they are received, and how they shape perceptions of a business.
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Recognize common rhetorical strategies businesses use to persuade audiences.
- Identify examples of bias in business communication.
- Evaluate the effects of these rhetorical choices on different groups of people.
- Reflect on how your own perspective and assumptions shape your reading of business messages.
This lesson will help you think critically about the ways businesses use rhetoric to maintain credibility, build trust, and influence decision-making—while also showing you how bias can shape or distort those messages..
