Teaching Video: Teaching MLA and APA Essay Formatting

Objective: Create a video tutorial in which you teach your peers how to properly format an essay in MLA and APA style. This assignment will help you demonstrate your understanding of scholarly formatting and enhance your presentation and teaching skills.

Video Requirements

Record a video of yourself explaining and demonstrating how to format an essay in MLA style.

You must be visibly present in the video throughout your presentation.

Use visuals such as slides, screen recordings, or physical examples to support your explanations.


Content Requirements

Clearly and accurately explain each component of an MLA formatted essay.

Ensure your explanations are clear and concise.

Use real examples to illustrate your points.


MLA Components to Include:

General MLA Formatting Rules:

  • Paper size and type (e.g., 8.5 x 11-inch, white paper).
  • Font style and size (e.g., Times New Roman, 12 pt).
  • Margins (1 inch on all sides).
  • Line spacing (double-spaced).
  • Indentation (0.5-inch first line of each paragraph).

Header:

  • Student’s name.
  • Instructor’s name.
  • Course name.
  • Date (day month year format).

Title:

Centered and not underlined, bolded, or italicized.

Page Numbers:

  • In the header, flush with the right margin.
  • Last name followed by page number (e.g., Smith 1).

In-Text Citations:

  • How to cite sources within the text.
  • Parenthetical citations and their format.

Works Cited Page:

  • Title “Works Cited” centered at the top of the page.
  • Entries in alphabetical order by the author’s last name.
  • Hanging indent for each entry.
  • Correct format for different types of sources (books, articles, websites, etc.).

Additional Elements:

  • Block quotes formatting.
  • How to cite multiple authors.
  • How to format titles of works within the text.

Video Duration

Your video should be a minimum 10 minutes long.



Submission Instructions

Upload your video to YouTube and submit the link on Blackboard. Make sure your video is at least 10
minutes long and addresses each prompt fully.
● All videos must be uploaded to YouTube.
● You will submit the YouTube link to the video via Blackboard.

Important Notes:
β—‹ The YouTube video must be uploaded before the assignment due date. If the video upload date is after the due date, it will result in an automatic 0.

β—‹ Links that do not work or do not lead to the appropriate video will result in an automatic 0.

β—‹ Videos that are taken down before the end of the semester (December 10) will result in an automatic 0.

β—‹ Videos that require special permissions or access restrictions will result in an automatic 0.

Make sure the video is publicly accessible or set to “unlisted” to avoid access issues.
