Establishing Your Ethos Video & Poster Board Reflection

Objective: For this assignment, you will create a video where you explain Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and engage with critical perspectives about its origins. Additionally, you will reflect on your personal life by expanding on a poster board that you created in class on September 24. Follow the steps below to complete the
assignment. If you did not finish or participated incompletely, now is your chance to redo it. This portion will be part of your final grade in this assignment, and it does not impact your previous participation grade.

Introduction to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

In your video, explain Maslow’s five-tier model, starting from the physiological needs and ending with self-actualization. Provide specific details about each level.

Critical Perspective on Maslow’s Theory

There is scholarly debate that Maslow’s hierarchy may have been influenced by an Indigenous group of people. Briefly research and explain this argument, citing your
source(s).

Address how these critiques challenge the traditional understanding of Maslow’s work.

Ethos, Pathos, and Logos

○ Define Ethos- cite your sources, explain in your own words.
○ Define Pathos- cite your sources, explain in your own words.
○ Define Logo- cite your sources, explain in your own words

Ethos

Your ethos should be at the top or bottom of the poster. Explain what your ethos is and why you chose it.

Pathos

○ Explain why the images are your pathos.
○ You may talk about your personal images.

Logos

  • Explain why the pyramid is the logos and where it is represented/displayed on your board.
  • Ways You Currently Meet These Needs
Be specific to your life when addressing each of Maslow’s five levels. For example:
    • Physiological Needs: “I meet my need for proper nutrition by preparing
balanced meals every Sunday for the week.”
    • Safety Needs: “I have implemented a savings plan to ensure financial
      security during emergencies.”
    • Continue this level of detail for each of the remaining three levels: love/belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.
  • New Practices to Meet These Needs:
Think critically about what new actions you can take to meet these needs more effectively. Avoid vague responses like “I will exercise more.” Instead, try:

“I plan to start a 15-minute mindfulness meditation every morning to enhance my mental clarity and self-actualization.”

Discuss ALL of these items. Ensure to discuss how they do/can/will relate to your life and your board:

  • Ethnocentrism
  • Know Thyself
  • Being a Critical Thinker vs Being a Contrarian
  • Spotlight Effect
  • Better-Than-Average Effect
  • Dunning-Kruger Effect

Reminders

● This assignment requires you to engage personally with Maslow’s theory. Be sure to include specific and personal examples for how you meet and plan to meet each level of need.
● Vague answers will not be accepted.
