Local Policy Business Letter
You will write a formal letter to a local government office or official about a specific local policy that you either support or oppose. Follow the directions carefully below:
1. Topic Requirements
- You must discuss a specific policy and include the exact policy name in your letter.
- You must include a working link to where you found this local policy (city or county government website, ordinance database, or official public record).
- You cannot write about federal or state issues. Email me if you must do a state or federal policy/law.
- You cannot write about school policies.
- Focus only on city or county issues that directly impact your community.
2. Research Requirements
- Identify the exact government official or office responsible for this issue.
- Include a screenshot or image showing where you found the official’s name and mailing address.
- Do not use fake names, addresses, or information anywhere in your letter.
3. Writing Requirements
- Single Spaced
- Use business letter format (include the date, address, greeting, body paragraphs, closing, and signature line). You may use the school address as your address.
- Your letter must be two full pages long.
- Clearly state whether you are supporting or protesting the identified policy.
- Integrate 4 theories from your Mbongi readings to strengthen your argument.
- Use narrative citations throughout your letter to reference your sources.
4. Addendum Requirements
- Include a separate addendum page that contains:
- The exact name of the policy you are writing about.
- A working link to the official source where the policy is published.
- 5 scholarly citations that support your argument or provide background information.
- All sources will be checked for validity and credibility.

Local Policy Letter Rubric (Total: 100 points)
Each category is worth 25% of the total grade. Each criterion will be graded as Met (25%) or Not Met (0%).
