Biases: Positionality Statement

Objective:In this assignment, you will develop your own positionality statement. A positionality statement is a reflective and critical self-assessment that acknowledges your identity, lived experiences, and how these shape your worldview. It also recognizes how others may perceive you based on your intersections of identity. Importantly, this reflection will connect your experiences to the concept of intersectionality as introduced by Kimberlé Crenshaw.

Note: You were already provided this information the second week in September and were required to have all the research that is asked below. You can now just create a video with the information you have gathered.

Introduction

Begin by defining positionality in your own words.Briefly explain Kimberlé Crenshaw’s theory of intersectionality and its significance in understanding overlapping social identities. Be sure to cite Crenshaw properly.


Lived Experiences

Detail your lived experiences that shape your worldview, such as your race, ethnicity, gender, class, religion, sexuality, nationality, ability, or other identities that influence your perspective.Reflect on how these experiences impact how you see the world, your values, and your opportunities.


Perceptions of Others

Consider how others might perceive you because of your intersections of identity.

Requirements

Minimum: 500 words.

Must include at least one direct citation from Kimberlé Crenshaw’s work.

APA formatting, including a cover page and reference page.

Writing should be clear, reflective, and analytical.
